PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY SET TO LAUNCH IN OGUN

A pharmaceutical company that specialises in the production of medication kits for the treatment of diabetes, hypertension, and heart-related diseases is set for commissioning in Ogun State, signaling another major boost in Ogun State investment opportunities.

Chief Executive Officer of Codix Bio Pharmaceutical Company, Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, stating that the factory, located along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, is poised to make significant impact across Nigeria and Africa.

Mr. Ogunjimi revealed that the company is partnering with the World Health Organization (WHO) on technology transfer to build capacity for manufacturing Rapid Diagnostics Tests, starting with HIV, malaria, and others. According to him, the company—which began operations in 2008—focuses on cardio-metabolic health challenges, especially diabetes and heart diseases.

“When we came to Nigeria, we realized that the biggest issue is effective diagnosis. People are often misdiagnosed due to lack of proper tools or knowledge. In 2009, we were the first to facilitate the national guidelines for diagnosing diabetes in Nigeria,” he said.

He explained that although 99 percent of diagnostic kits are used in Africa, none are manufactured on the continent. With the new facility, that narrative is set to change. “This project, which will be commissioned on Friday, is the only one of its kind. We’re receiving technology transfer from SG Biosensor, and our goal is to not only serve Nigeria but all of Africa,” he added.

The CEO further announced plans to establish another factory within 18 months, focused on contract manufacturing for generic products in Nigeria. He noted that his decision to invest in Ogun was largely influenced by the ease of doing business in Ogun, the welcoming investment climate, and his roots in Sagamu.

“For me, as a son of the soil, I’ve used my network to ensure that this industry finds its home here. Ogun State has shown strong leadership in creating an enabling environment for business,” he said.
Responding, Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized the importance of aligning education and healthcare with the needs of emerging investors and industries. He described Ogun as the “education capital of Nigeria,” stressing the government’s role in repositioning institutions like the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital and upgrading the School of Nursing into a degree-awarding college.

He affirmed the government’s readiness to support projects like Codix Bio’s, which align with the broader goals of Ogun economic development and improved public health systems. “We’ve renovated more than 100 Primary Healthcare Centres and plan to reach 236, ensuring one per ward under our hub-and-spoke healthcare model,” he noted.

Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and public services in line with its ISEYA pillars. “We’re glad to support projects that tick all the right boxes—healthcare, innovation, jobs, and manufacturing. This is a strategic contribution to Ogun State infrastructure development and long-term industrialisation,” he said.

He concluded by noting that the RDT manufacturing plant will be the first of its scale in Nigeria and the second largest in sub-Saharan Africa, reiterating the State’s promise to collaborate with genuine investors and provide essential infrastructure for residents and businesses to thrive.
